If you are a home owner, you will not want to miss this series of landscape design workshops in which you will learn basic design principles that will put you well on the road to having the best designed landscape on the block! There will be hands-on classroom exercises and take-home assignments, along with advice and inspiration about hardscape, planting materials, and outdoor décor. This workshop is specifically designed for homeowners who are either interested in learning how to develop their total landscape plan or to add to their present one.
The first workshop—“Getting Started with the Plan”—will give you the basics of developing a plan, including preparing a base map of your property and/or project area. Workshop number two—“Introduction to Landscape De- sign”—will teach you the fundamentals for laying out your plan so that both you and your plants are happy with the final results. The third workshop—“Design Elements in the Landscape”—will cover fences, walks, benches, patios, water features, and utility areas. You will learn how to choose the right trees and shrubs for your landscape. The fourth workshop is an “Inspiration Session.” You will review your design plan with the instructor and receive ideas and feedback from fellow classmates.
The Arboretum will provide basic drafting supplies including graph paper, pencils, compass, and a circle template.
